Tiki Bars

FLG has to admit that one of the things he likes most about Bourdain is his non-ironic love of tiki bars. FLG has long believed and oft professed that the world needs more tiki bars. If you jump to the 17 minute mark, then you'll see a pretty damn cool one.

Are you familiar with The Exciting Sounds of Martin Denny?

If not, I think you might love it.

(Also, whoa: if you want to know what I was like at age 25, I apparently wrote the "most helpful" customer review on that page. I have no recollection of writing most of it, but it's nice to see that I was hating on hipster irony even then!)

I can see that in fairly constant Saturday Night rotation at Maison FLG. Maybe a spring block party with tiki lamps out on the lawn...

P.S. I've been there. It's the sort of place to hit when you're already loaded, and you're sleeping an elevator ride away. Otherwise, not so much.

I was not familiar with The Exciting Sounds of Martin Denny, but now I must have it.

Always hate on hipster irony.

For some reason, I always figured you more of a Garden Court at The Palace type of guy.

You're not old enough or local enough to remember Trader Vic's in the Hilton at 16th and K.

See that greenish tufted booth in the center right of the shot? That's where Hoover and Tolson spent their lunch hour. Almost every day.
