Are You Fucking Kidding Me?

Felix Salmon posted a video in which he says that the most interesting idea he'd heard was from Chris Hayes called fractal inequality, which is, put simply, that no matter how rich people are they always feel that there's somebody richer. Consequently, even very rich people feel middle class. Felix seems surprised that even people at Davos are never feel secure in their "plutocratic status."

No fucking shit! These are the top journalistic minds people are sending to Davos? They could've gone to a dinner party in Greenwich and saved themselves the time.

Look, the people at Davos feel their insecurity even more acutely becuase they define themselves by that status. If somebody is going to Davos it's to feel part of the in-crowd. Oh, they'll rationalize it by saying they get deals done or network for future deals. We can call it networking, but really it's a status symbol. But once you get a bunch of status whores together, it inevitably turns into a massive circle jerk / dick measuring contest.
