Somebody Needs To Chill

Every once and while when FLG is searching for something related to Georgetown, he'll run across an admissions message board. Inevitably, there's some post from some high school kid asking whether he should choose Georgetown over some other school and a response that reads something like this:
Georgetown sucks. It's not Ivy and if you don't go to an Ivy, then you're a loser and no IBank will ever look at you. Plus, their endowment sucks and the only people who go there are people who couldn't get into an Ivy.

FutureAsianIBanker or something similar.

And it's not just a Georgetown thing. You can see something similar for any number of schools. And if you get some really fucked up commenter, then it's HYP and everything else sucks. The whole thing deeply saddens me. A large number of our supposed best and brightest are prestige whoring assholes with a seriously distorted view of reality and priorities. The only thing that gives me any hope is that they might grow out of it eventually.

Take a look at the current administration (including the 2 new members of SCOTUS) and see if any of them grew out of it.

Heh, Mrs. P. pre-empted my comment. GMTA and all that. (Though I would say that the President is already proof that people don't grow out of it.)
