Workout

FLG's brother was in the Navy. While in the Navy, he, like any red blooded and slightly crazy American male, dreamed of joining the Navy SEALs. FLG's bro asked around about the process and was given a workout schedule of things to do just to prepare for the entry test that must be passed even to tryout. The Navy developed it and published it in some manual. Lucky for us, it's posted around the Internet.

Every year or so, usually around this time, FLG gets up the gumption to begin the training. Not to join the SEALs mind you, but just to get in shape. And so he sets out to run 2 miles at an 8:30 pace. Then, he does his pushups and situps. Usually he doesn't have a pull up bar handy, so he ignores that unless he's in a gym. (This throws off that part of the workout big time.) Lastly, he ignores the swimming because he just doesn't have that amount of time in the day to workout, nor access to a pool.

Today, FLG did Wednesday of week 1. Like Robbo, allergies are killing FLG. Moreover, his chest and abs are sore from Monday's workout. The only bright side of the whole thing is that FLG has been running for the last few months and can do two miles at a 7:30 pace. So, that part is much easier right now. Once the distance increases, well, he's fucked.

Historically, FLG makes it to week 6 or 7 before injury or exhaustion kick in and he's done. He's hoping to complete the first 9 weeks this time. We'll see how it goes, but given how he feels right now it ain't lookin' too good.

I'm pretty impressed. It's been a while since I ran/jogged. I'm guessing my pace would be closer to 17:30.

I'm fantastically impressed, but also sure it's a typo. Two miles in 7:30? That would be a world record. The current record is 7:58.61 set in 1997 by Daniel Komen of Kenya, the only man in history to run back-to-back sub-four minute miles.

Oh, sorry. 7:30 pace. I assume that means two miles in 15 minutes. Carry on.
