What To Say?

There is a possibility that FLG will get to meet President Obama in the near future. The little number-runner in his brain has set the odds at about 50-50. If this occurs, then FLG puts the odds that he will simply say, "Nice to meet you, Mr. President" and be done at damn near 100%. FLG simply respects the office too much. Also, he actually doesn't have a bad opinion of the man. Just policy disagreements.

However, he's leaving the comments section of this post open to other suggestions. Serious or sarcastic.

I have met a few US Presidents. I am with you, you have to be respectful of the office and show some decorum. When I got to shake hands with Jimmy Carter once I went with "It is nice to meet you Mr President." There isn't much more you can do in that situation. If you have a moment to chat respect and thoughtfulness should win the day. I was a gushing fanboy when I met Ronald Reagan.

Muster up all the woebegone you can and say “brother, can you spare a dime”. But by no means do you break into the song - he may misinterpret it as not funny and you may end up as the next Joe the Plumber.

Ask him where he learned to throw a baseball. Or whether he can name any baseball players. At all.

Or, you could just say you voted for him and you think he's doing a bully of a job.

FLG, you have to be very careful with asking this President a simple question. Simple questions yield 17 minute, 2,500+ word inexplicable responses from this guy.

A good Presidential question would be and I'd love to hear his thoughts -all of them- on the subject is,

Who's buried in Grant's Tomb?

If you don't want to go the Presidential route, and desire to be a memorable moment in his life yet still properly reverential, when our POTUS puts forth his hand to shake yours ask,

Handshake? Why don't I get a bow?

Mrs. P

Ooh, I second Mrs. P's last suggestion!

Ditto!

(And it has the additional virtue of being certain to linger in FLG's head until the very moment of the handshake...)
