Alan's Favorite Iraqi Patriot at it again.

C'mon. You can do better than this.

My arguing that al-Sadr sees his actions as patriotic is a far cry from me suggesting he is my favorite. He is not, nor should you be leading people to believe he is. I oppose emphatically anyone advocating violence against our troops as you know quite well. I do understand why he and others fought us, and I applauded his order to cease fighting us as did a number of senior US military officials like General Petraeus. But even that is not enough to make him a "favorite." You owe me an apology.

Secondly, the group that has threatened actions against our forces there now split from al-Sadr long ago. They are not under his control. They rejected his order to lay down their arms and pursue politics rather than violence. Petraeus and others have long distinguished between off-shoots of the Jaish al-Mahdi and the rump force taking direction from al-Sadr.
