What Is It About Grad School That Renders Many People Incapable Of Speaking Simple, Straight-Forward English?

FLG heard the following sentence the other day:
The ambiguity of the text renders it unamenable to prescriptive conclusions.


Isn't "I have no fucking clue what the book is saying" much easier to understand? Isn't it somewhat hypocritical to talk about the obtuseness of an author in such an obtuse manner?

Or, "The text is meant to be ambiguous."

Not that anyone else is any better at writing plain English.
