Co-worker: FLG, you like Roman stuff, right?
FLG: Well, I'm more interested in Alexander, but yes.
Co-worker: Alexander wasn't Roman?
FLG: Uh, no.
Co-worker: I see. Uh. Did you happen to see the recent Smithsonian Magazine?
FLG: We received it, but I haven't had a chance to look at it.
Co-worker: Did you know the Romans conquered England? There's a article about the wall an emperor built. Trajan, I think his name was.
FLG: Hadrian. Trajan came before him. Hadrian built the wall. It's called Hadrian's Wall. It's kinda sorta famous.
Co-worker: In any case, it was a good article. You should read it.

I experience a conversation like this almost every day with students.
Arethusa:
On the topics you've assigned reading?
It took all my self-control not to smack my co-worker for thinking Alexander was Roman.
Often. Alas.
Alexander wasn't built in a day, nor was his wall in China.
Alan, Alexander's wall is is in the Caucasus.
The one in China was built by the Romans.
Make that "was was built by the Romans."
Alpheus, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha! As long as you do not deprive him of credit for the pyramids...
