Speaking of his book:
Ce n'est ni un roman, ni des Mémoires. J'ai préféré laissé les choses dans le vague. C'est un récit, mais au fond, pour moi, c'est un tract : une manière de raconter une vie qui ressemble à la mienne, mais aussi à celles de beaucoup d'autres gens.
It's neither a novel, nor a memoir. I preferred to leave things vague. It's an account, but at bottom, for me, it's a sketch*: a manner of recounting a life which resembles mine, but also those of a lot of other people.
A couple of things occur to me. First, didn't anybody read his book before? Seems like this is the type of thing that would've been mentioned if anybody had. Second, when you are distancing yourself from your own book, it's a bit fishy. I have no idea if any of you find this interesting, but I do and will keep following it. My guess is that he'll end up resigning, but it's France so maybe not.

I am in a different time zone, so I can`t propose a bet.
The TV interview seemed bizarre to me -and I have been in and out of France and following the news longer than I care to recall.
Q: How old was he at the time of the facts. (5 ans des moins)
Garcon - can be used to describe a child or a young man. Funny that the interviewer did not question that. She did seem vy tense anyway.
My guess: He won`t resign unless st new comes up.
2nd guess: as Mme. Boutin points out traditional conservatives will takes this vy badly (Interview on Le Figaro`s site).
3rd guess: Marine LePen is a lot smarter than her father (which is not saying mauch) and she`ll be one to watch. She is young enough to have a long-term perspective.
Btw. I can t see what - traditional frog-bashing apart - this has to do with the thing happening in France.
The DC establishment buried a respected, nay revered pol recently who is world-famous for letting a woman drown.
If a pols power bases is strong enough he`ll sit it out.
Finally - Fréd. Mitterand is reputed to be a middle-brow bore. That s why there was no stink about the book beforehand - people probably didn t get past P 10 or so.

Sometimes the limits of acceptance of hedonistic sexual proclivities by bourgeois Parisians never ceases to surprise me. So, there's that aspect of it being in France. Or, if you prefer, of me being a Puritanical American.
