FLG has read a lot about Alexander. Not every book ever written on the man. That's probably not possible. But he's read enough. Plus, FLG has probably watched most documentaries on him. Oddly, FLG has never seen the Oliver Stone movie. Anyway, FLG doesn't consider himself an expert, but thought he'd heard most everything about Alexander.
Don't misunderstand. If you asked when Alexander crossed the Hellespont, FLG wouldn't know the year off-hand, but he would know that Alexander threw a spear into the ground. Nor can he tell you the differences, if any between, Plutarch's and Arrian's version of the Battle of Granicus River. Although FLG does remember that Peter Green has some crazy other theory about the battle, but again he forgets the details. It's like this for most things Alexander. FLG has probably heard them at some point, but can't recall everything. However....
FLG had no idea that Alexander might be mentioned in the Koran.
Ya learn something new every day.

You probably haven't heard of this passage because most authors on Alexander take the passage to refer to Cyrus the Great, and so are unlikely to mention it.
And why haven't you seen the Oliver Stone movie? It's great if you enjoy scenes of drunken revelry interspersed with scenes of deep psychological anguish, all of it over the top. (To Alpheus's embarrassment, I laughed my way through most of it.)
I didn't see the movie because I've read the Robin Lane Fox bio upon which it was based. That was enough for me.
