Where Does It Stop?

NYTimes:
That’s why our success in bringing health care costs under control ultimately depends on whether Washington can summon the political will to take on and reform a second, even more powerful industry: the food industry.

The scariest thing about a government takeover of health care, and by this I mean single payer, is that it then provides a springboard into so many parts of life. Almost everything affects health in some way. First it begins with rather mundane things. We need motorcycle helmet and seat belt laws. These are almost always justified based upon, at least in part, the increased health insurance costs. Next, it's food. Then, it's keyboard design to minimize carpal tunnel. Then, it's who the heck knows? Where does it end?

Now, I realize that an article in a newspaper does not public policy make, but it frightens me that there are people out there who want to parlay the government's control of health care (and climate change legislation for that matter) into government controlling their pet project or cause.
