Disordered Souls

Remember when I said that the people who get to the top of a meritocracy have disordered, perhaps broken, souls:
I'd like to argue that the obnoxiousness of meritocrats is unavoidable as it is part of the deformation of the meritocrat's soul...Meritocracy needs objective measures of success and, well, merit...This distorts the soul..the most successful people have something to prove. Either a parent died or left or somebody ridiculed them or whatever.

Apparently, Michael Jordan whose greatness on the basketball court is without question possesses every deformation of the meritocratic soul. When you are still trying to prove something to your high school coach, "He waggled to the old coach, 'I wanted to make sure you understood: You made a mistake, dude,'" you've got a serious problem.

Pity. He proved a long time ago that he's the greatest of all-time to everybody, except himself.
