I'm Speechless

Drudge:
STEPHANOPOULOS: Hundreds of millions of dollars to expand family planning services. How is that stimulus?

PELOSI: Well, the family planning services reduce cost. They reduce cost. The states are in terrible fiscal budget crises now and part of what we do for children's health, education and some of those elements are to help the states meet their financial needs. One of those - one of the initiatives you mentioned, the contraception, will reduce costs to the states and to the federal government.

STEPHANOPOULOS: So no apologies for that?

PELOSI: No apologies. No. we have to deal with the consequences of the downturn in our economy.

She does claim to be Catholic, right? Then the better cost savings for the same moral abhorrence would be to kill old people. They're expensive and the government pays for all of their healthcare.

Can we all admit that Pelosi is a fucking moron now? Even if it's true, didn't she just make the worst political and most morally questionable argument possible in support of her position?

Pelosi is hardly a moron. What she said is absolutely true. Her religious beliefs are her own and none of your business. Who the fuck cares if she is Catholic? She was voted into office by constituants who know full well what her stance is on the issues. Whether spending on family planning will help stimulate the economy should be the argument, not her religion. But it IS your blog. (The Drudge Report? Scraping the bottom of the barrel, eh?)

Even if you take out the sentence about her being Catholic, the rest of FLG's comment is right on. If we want fewer people to boost the economy, why not just "kill old people"? It doesn't matter whether she's Catholic or not. Even if she were an atheist, she's on questionable moral ground here.

And less population is actually an economic problem. Russia, for example, is trying to increase fertility rates.

Even if I grant that it may alleviate some short-term budget problems, and that alleviation would be both marginal and debatable, it creates larger a long-term problem for social security.

Nevertheless, birth control should not be justified using macroeconomic arguments. It's morally distasteful.

Stephanopoulos is an idiot because he failed to clarify the moron's comments. If you read this carefully the moron was speaking of contraception in relation to children's health issues. Since when have children required contraception? They do not. Women do. And what exactly is the morn's definition of contraception? Chances are better than 50/50 the moron is speaking of federally funding contraception and abortion as abortion is a form of contraception to Catholics like the moron.

As for "who (vulgarity removed) cares if the moron is a Catholic"? Well the Pope for one because not only did the moron feel it necessary to kiss his ring at the White House this past spring, she also claims she's a Catholic in good standing.

Morals? This is about morals? Excuse me while I puke. After eight years of the most morally corrupt government in U.S. history, you have a problem with family planning programs to help lower income women? Unbelievable. And, guess what? Atheists have morals, we just don't believe in fairy tales.
