Just as the Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton version of Cleopatra had its share of off-screen dramas, so, too, the new £20 million 3-D musical version of the great love affair does not appear to be immune from teething problems.
But no:
For his next directing effort, Steven Soderbergh is plotting a 3-D live-action rock ’n’ roll musical about Cleopatra.
He is courting Catherine Zeta-Jones to play the Egyptian queen and Hugh Jackman to play her lover, Marc Antony.
Ah, but then:
Hugh Jackman has just "removed himself from discussions" to play the part. Perhaps James Purefoy, who played Antony in the BBC series Rome and impressed many viewers with his prominent talent, might rise to the occasion.
What's interesting is not the idea of James Purefoy reprising as Marcus Antonius, but what I found when I was looking for what he is up to:
James Purefoy, who played Mark Antony in Rome is set to play the new Simon Templar in the forthcoming TV series of The Saint.
Bad-Ass, but unfortunately:
production ultimately did not occur
